Peoria has a pretty healthy First Friday arts scene, which I always love to take part in. It’s a great opportunity to meet people of different backgrounds and skills. It’s amazing to see how people take the basics of a medium and then take that extra step to make it theirs.

Chris Kukla was kind enough to let me snap some photographs with my Rolleiflex, and I also bought a lovely tumbler from him for my dishware collection.

I learned you can use a propane torch to help dry the surface and introduce a cracking texture on the surface of the clay. Pretty interesting demonstration.

Some examples of Chris’s work are here.
