It’s hard to believe that the Flint Water Crisis started in 2014, 2 years before I took this picture in Detroit in 2016. When the water source for Flint was changed, without the appropriate use of corrosion inhibitors, the water system for the city was contaminated with lead and Legionnaires’ Disease.

By the end of 2020, more than 26,750 water service pipes had been excavated, and almost 10,000 lead pipes were replaced.

Only in January 2021 (7 years later!) were Rick Snyder and 8 other officials charged with their roles in creating the crisis. 2 were charged with involuntary manslaugher. The case is now working its way through the courts.
